Justice ... Fairness

“Good Day” to anyone and everyone whom may be reading my ‘Blog.’

If you had the opportunity or inclination to read my introduction of whom I am, and you are reading this, I thank you for the interest in reading further.

I must confess of all the writing I have ever done, writing a blog is one of the most difficult as well as challenging, and I am yet not sure as to why, but I am searching inside of myself to understand why.

I would like you, the reader, to remain open minded to what I am writing today, and I so very much would like to hear, er, read what you think, okay?<

Okay, here we go.

JUSTICE . . . FAIRNESS

Does it exist?

Or is it: EVERYTHING ‘IS’ AS IT SHOULD BE?

(I of course have my opinion; I would like to hear what you think)

THE BOXERS
------------------------------------------------

There are two boxers, Boxer A, and Boxer B. Both are world-class athletics competing for the world championship title.

Both boxers are in their prime; meaning, and this is important, they have both come from very impoverished backgrounds. Both of them have given, quite literally blood, sweet and tears. They have sacrificed thousands of hours of blood sweated training, nerve damaging hits with mind numbing blows to the head, detached retinas, and endured enormous personal losses, both from family, and friends. All self inflicting pain and struggle and suffering has come all hurling down to get to the one night they will fight each other for the title to being the world champion; moreover the ‘winner’ will set and secure his destiny both financially and socially as well secure his place in history of boxing. In other words, there is, NO SECOND PLACE!

Both boxers are very acutely aware of this fact.

Boxer A is statistically, as well as physiologically, a superior boxer than Boxer B. What is more, they come from very fundamental different backgrounds.

Boxer A was abandon as child, but his grandmother raised him and instilled into his psychic at an early age the principles of ‘fair play,’ following the rules, and the discipline of character.

Boxer B was also abandoned as a child, however he was moved from foster home to foster home, abused but discovered he had a skill with his fists, and found a gym owner who saw the raw potential and molded him into a world-class champion boxer.

The Fight Begins

FIRST ROUND
It was a clean and fair fight and the judges are equally split in their decision.

SECOND ROUND
When locked up and before the referee separates Boxer B, whispers taunting remarks about Boxer A's grandmother, calling her a whore, and how he’s going to ‘do her’ after the fight.

Boxer A tries not to let this get to him and holds on to his focus.

3rd, 4th, 5th ROUND
The taunting continues, and Boxer A can’t say, “Ohh, referee, he’s saying bad things about my grandmother, make him stop,” therefore, he sucks it up, but he is growing more and angrier, agitated as well, and is losing his focus.

SIXTH ROUND
Illegally, Boxer B, head bucks Boxer A, ‘hard’ and it makes Boxer A’s ears ring, and his stomach become very nauseous. However, the referee did not see it.

7th, 8th, 9th ROUND
Boxer B, besides the continued taunting, now hits Boxer A below the belt in the kidneys, and once in the groin, the referee sees this and penalizes Boxer B; however there is a lot of money riding on this fight, from HBO, to the purse, to the bookies. The referee is very well aware of this fact. He also knows it is his ass if he stops the fight anything but short of death. Boxer B also knows this and he is counting on it.

10th, 11th ROUND
Boxer B continues his tactics and it is beginning to work on Boxer A, but he believes, deep in his heart: “Quitters never quit and Cheaters never win.”

12th ROUND
The head bucks, the hits below the belt, the taunting is taking its toll on Boxer B. His legs are growing weaker, his arms are so heavy, and he is now breathing through his mouth and he is losing his focus.

13th ROUND
Boxer B, knocks Boxer A to the canvas and he barely get up on his feet before the ten count.

14th ROUND
Both boxers are exhausted, but Boxer A, is far more exhausted and severely hurting from all the ‘illegal’ blows given to him.

15th ROUND
Boxer B knocks out Boxer A and wins the World Title!

The Fight Ends.

Boxer B: Over the course of his career, he secures six, different advertisement endorsements contracts and earns over 100 million

Boxer B: Invests a great deal of his money in real estate, and becomes one of the super rich.

Boxer B: Marries a super model and they have two beautiful children and ‘their lives’ too are financially secure with the best teachers schools, right diets and medical attention and most likely their children as well.

Boxer A: Everyone tells him Boxer B stole that fight, slaps him on the back, buys him drinks and tells him he should have won.

Boxer A: Appears on a few commercials but slowly fades into yesterday's Sport’s Illustrated.

Boxer A: Through failed financial investments he loses his money.

Boxer A: No longer is even asked to sponsor and sign autographs at hardware store grand openings.

Boxer A: Slowly slips into a chronic state of depression and his health degenerates.

Boxer A: Begins to drink and becomes an alcoholic.

Boxer A: Is found dead in a cheap apartment.

THE QUEST
------------------------------------------------
Thursday, January 3, 2002, 8:30 A.M.
Mount Sinai Hospital
Cancer Unit

John lies in bed, an I.V. in his arm slowly drips into his vein, but it is only a sedative to relax him until the ‘real’ stuff comes.

Diana, his wife, Jacob, his 12 year old son and Sarah, his daughter of 10 years, John’s Father, David and his Mother, Linda, all sit around him waiting for the staff to come and take John into the room for preparation for his surgery.

John tells his family,  "I have always wanted to climb Mount Everest.”

His family is stunned, what in the world would make him say such a thing in a time like this.

John: “Yeah, ‘IF' I pull through this, I am going to climb Mount Everest.”

Wednesday, January 03, 2008, 3:33 P.M.
The frost on the bevel of John’s oxygen tank is cracked and moisture has seeped in, clouding the needle, but he can see it well enough to know the needle indicates the tank is near empty. He can no longer feel not only his toes but his feet as well. They had told him at base camp about the storm and he ignored them. He pitched his tent, but it is not enough now, and not only is Hypothermia setting in throughout his entire body, he too is now beginning to suffer from Hypoxia.

John looks out the slit of his tent and the sleet and snow almost freezes the moister in his eyeballs.  He reels backwards, covers his face with his hands and what little warm air is left in his lungs, he breathes into them and it drifts up his face and defrost his eyeballs.

With trembling blue and blacking fingers, he reached into the inner lining of his coat, pulls out his global satellite telephone, and calls his family.

They answer on the second ring, his wife, and children are on the extension.

“Diana, I am not coming home baby.”

All that can be heard on the other end is the deep whimper of his wife and the scream of his daughter.

“Daddy, please. . .” His son cries.

“It is okay, I am not hurting anymore, and in fact I don’t feel much anymore.”

Minutes pass and now all John’s family hears is the ragging wind flatting the tent’s slit against itself as John slowly slipped into death’s deep sleep.

STUDENT
------------------------------------------------
Monday, November 10, 1952, 4:30 P.M.

After a long drawn out meeting with the shareholder, David Walkman walks in, and all but crashes down into his chair.

Looking around he see a hand written note over the keys of his phone:

“The Ole Man wants to see you NOW!”

It is David’s birthday, and yet, he postponed any celebration until the weekend to be prepared for the meeting he just left.

David exits the executive elevator to the C.E.O.’s sitting office and finds him on the plush Italian leather sofa. A man of very few words the C.E.O., waives him over, and pats the cushion next to him, inviting David to sit by him.

“I have been following your progress with us for over three years now David. In addition, this last project, you have put over three hours of your own when you did not have to."

"You were the poor ‘token’ kid at Harvard, you had to hold down two jobs to survive in the dorm, and you graduated with honors."

"Against conventional wisdom, I went against the board and chose you over the others applicants, and quite frankly, the board thought they were more qualified, but they were wrong, I saw something in you and I stuck my neck out. I am going to stick my neck out one more time. You have sacrificed so much and given so much."

"I am making you a partner in the firm.”

Harvard Graduating Class

“Fifty Nine years ago, my Grandfather sat in one of the isles you now sit. My Grandfather was a poor kid from the wrong side of town, but he had the good grades, and someone, who believed in him enough endorsed him to get him in Harvard."

"My father told me how my grandfather washed dishes in both the facility as well student cafeteria. How he wore Goodwill clothing and even when he was invited to a party or two through out the semester he had either to work or study."

"He was picked by up as a junior executive by I.B.M., and through his dedication tenacity coupled with perseverance he excelled."

"Today, here at Harvard a hall is named after him, but more important, myself and the grant he has given has enabled others to come here receive the finest education in the world and an opportunity to change the world."

"I say now, to the graduating class of 2007, go out into the world and make a difference, each and everyone of you find another man like my Grandfather give that person a chance and the world will become a better place."

QUESTIONS:
------------------------------------------------

These examples of course are of course just examples, what ‘it is,’ however, the concept, the principles can be transposed over other scenarios.

The question is this:

And remember before anyone answers, the question is NOT, is ‘it’ fair, and is it is as it ‘should’ be?

IS EVERYTHING AS IT SHOULD BE. . .TAKING THE CONCEPT OF ‘FAIR’ AND ‘RIGHT’ AND ‘MORALITY’ OUT OF THE EQUATION

Again, the question is:
If a set chain of events, of occurrences take place what ‘should’ what ‘most likely’ what ‘probability’ will happen?

ANOTHER WAY OF PRESENTING THE QUESTION:
Is one plus one wrong if it equals two?

Where does value of the soul come into the equation and is worth the sacrifice?

In addition, if so, whose says so? But more importantly, “WHY?”

DOES EVERYTHING HAPPEN FOR A REASON! = STATEMENT

OR

IS THERE A REASON FOR EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENS? = QUESTION

I so very much would like to hear from anyone concerning what I have written.

Take care.
S. Cio
